Details: The High Street looking north from Holyrood. This view was much used by Stuart who published several versions of this card. It really gives a flavour of the character of the High Street prior to the Second World War. In the foreground Aylward & Sons, shipping suppliers; beyond can be seen the Dolphin Hotel and St Lawrence's church with the Bargate in the distance, through which the tram in the foreground will shortly pass. Sadly many of these buildings have vanished, lost during the war or otherwise demolished.
